Body scan
Whether you are creating a digital replica for customizing prosthetic devices or planning a surgery, designing a character for movie special effects, a video game or a VR/AR experience, a swift and lifelike body scan becomes essential. Artec 3D technology ensures that you won't have to spend countless hours on intricate manual modeling, while allowing you to achieve a true-to-life result.
In this striking 3D model, we see a young man standing tall with his hands raised in a muscle flex pose. The photorealistic digital twin invites one to explore every part of the man’s body, from his hair to face features to veins to fingernails. The intricacies of the fingers and joints are impeccably recreated, giving the pose an authentic quality that is often so challenging to achieve. The model's legs, sturdy and well-defined, ground him firmly to the invisible base, adding stability and a sense of purpose to his stance – you can almost expect him to start walking! Even the hair – the infamous scanning nightmare – lies naturally, rendered with astounding accuracy.
Created with the help of Artec Leo, the wireless AI-driven 3D scanner with real-time capturing capabilities and texture mapping, this 3D model is a dedication to accuracy and realism. Due to the pose of the model, it was almost impossible to avoid movement while obtaining data. Tips from our scanning specialist? Prioritize gathering data from the less static parts of the body, such as the arms, which are subject to movement due to tension. We began with the right arm, collecting complete data, then moved to the left arm after passing over the back. Finally, we proceeded to scan the head, body, and legs since they are more stable and easier for the actor to control.
Doing all this was far easier with the Leo’s built-in touchscreen and onboard processing, which make it a self-contained and super portable scanning solution. Our scanning specialist ensured the scanner was directed at a 90-degree perpendicular angle to the actor for optimal texture quality. Over several rounds, we were done with the scanning in just 10 minutes, with less than one hour for processing in Artec Studio and final refinements to complete the model.
You can see how the meticulous attention to detail in the model's anatomy creates an inimitable visual representation of human form and emotion. Go ahead and rotate the model to see how it masterfully captures every intricate detail, from the bulging biceps and sinewy forearms to the broad, powerful shoulders (this is what we call the next level of flex-ibility).
