Take part in the 1st SHApe Recovery from Partial textured 3D scans (SHARP) workshop and challenge
A surface wasn’t captured entirely during a 3D scanning session? You know how both texture and geometry can be recreated from the data available? Welcome to the 1st SHApe Recovery from Partial textured 3D scans (SHARP) workshop and challenges. A total of 6,000 euros will be awarded to the winners of the SHARP challenges, which will take place at the Scottish Event Campus (SEC) in Glasgow on August 23.
Organized by Luxembourg University and Artec 3D, as part of the 2020 European Conference on Computer Vision (ECCV), the event will focus on photogrammetric capture systems as well as portable 3D scanners.
As a participant of one of the four SHApe challenges you’ll need to create a watertight 3D mesh along with texture from an incomplete 3D scan. You’ll be able to choose whether to work with human body scans or generic object scans. Let’s take a quick look at these 3D scan datasets right now to get an idea of what to expect.
Recovery of textured human body scans
This challenge introduces a new unique dataset, 3DBodyTex.v2 – an extension of the 3DBodyTex data, which contains 3,300 textured 3D body scans with tight-fitting or loose clothing, with a large variety of poses and subjects.
Recovery of textured generic object scans
This challenge introduces a new unique dataset, 3DObjectTex.v1 – a subset from the ViewShape repository, which includes 1,200 textured 3D scans of many different objects.
We’ll be happy to meet you in person at the venue, but if you can’t make it to Glasgow, you’re welcome to join us online. To participate in person, you’ll first need to submit a paper, while online participation requires submitting a code at the end. Combining both options is also possible.
Application procedures are detailed on the website of the event at https://cvi2.uni.lu/sharp2020. Please make sure to check the deadlines in good time!
Let’s plan to see each other in person or virtually and explore all the different ways to solve these fascinating 3D challenges!
