Pipes
This 3D model reveals a highly intricate network of pipes, showcasing the mind-blowing complexity inherent in the industrial structure. Data captured with Artec Ray II unlocks every detail of the interwoven scene. In a process spanning approximately 5 hours, 48 scans were captured. For a model like this, the main hurdle in achieving great results could lie in the scene's complexity: a dense network of intertwined pipes obstructing each other creates many hard-to-reach areas and presents a substantial scanning challenge. The key to success was meticulous pre-planning of angles to ensure full coverage.
To overcome the challenge, our scanning specialist strategically employed three different angles: one from the floor, another from a height of one and a half meters, and the third from a height of 2.5 meters. To streamline the process and avoid constant tripod reconfiguration, this scanning hero methodically captured scans from the floor first, followed by mid-height and maximum height angles. This approach ensured a systematic and efficient data collection process.
Needless to say, the scanning device used in this operation played its significant part: the high-accuracy, long-range Ray II laser scanner boasts the ability to precisely and rapidly capture large to massive objects or scenes from up to 130 meters away, setting the new standards for 3D point accuracy.
In the processing phase, importing the data took less than an hour, and thanks to cutting-edge Artec Studio 18.1 algorithms, the auto-aligning process was a breeze, wrapping up in just 4 minutes. The registration process took about 30 mins, and the fusion of the scans was smoothly accomplished within a couple of hours. All of this was handled on a robust computer boasting 128 GB of RAM, showcasing the impressive power and efficiency of Artec Studio processing capabilities.
