Grasshopper
This 3D grasshopper looks so real, you’d swear it was about to hop right off the screen! Created using camera photos and Artec Studio’s revolutionary AI Photogrammetry feature, this model replicates all parts of the insect’s body in vibrant color – even its three pairs of legs, the long and narrow forewings, and the hindwings folded beneath.
As you zoom in and rotate the model, you can explore all the features captured with incredible fidelity. Upon closer examination, fine details become apparent: the grasshopper’s body is covered in a smooth, waxy cuticle that gives it a slightly glossy appearance. You can even see clearly a network of veins covering the grasshopper’s membranous wings.
To create its digital twin, our team placed the grasshopper (which wandered into a tech office, hesitated to jump off, and went into hibernation due to the air conditioning and bright lights) on colored paper and photographed it with a DSLR camera. Just a couple of minutes were enough to get top-quality images, which were then reconstructed in Artec Studio 19 using AI Photogrammetry in a mere five minutes. What makes this 3D model particularly exciting is that the grasshopper has relatively thin and translucent parts, which were nevertheless successfully reconstructed.
As you rotate the model to view it from every side, you’ll notice that every intricate detail, from the grasshopper’s nose appendage to its rounded eyes and leathery skin, has been captured in astonishing accuracy. With every body part and unique element faithfully rendered, the 3D model is as true to its real-world counterpart as possible. This 3D model is great for a variety of applications, such as education, research, heritage preservation, CGI, and design, just to name a few. Zoom on in before it takes a leap!
