Quality control of automobile seats
The Goal: To use two different handheld structured-light scanners to scan in color 3D multiple car seats from a variety of angles, and then to create exact 3D models of these, for use locally and across their organization among designers and engineers.
Tools Used: Artec L, Artec MH, Artec Studio
Artec scanners are used by Hyundai in perceived quality for scanning automobile seats.
The Artec L scanner is used to create a 3D model of a car seat. It is usually scanned from different angles to capture the geometry. The smaller, intricate details of a seat are scanned with the Artec MHT scanner and the data is combined to make a complete, highly precise 3D model of the car seat.
Both devices are portable and easy to use which means that they can be taken to different locations.
The outcome of the process is very reliable as it is supported by precise measurements of the scanned object for following evaluation. The seat model is measured and compared with a prototype in order to meet quality requirements such as comfort and ergonomics and then its shape or contour is adjusted up to the standard.
